Oscars Beauty 2011: Cate Blanchett
When you have flawless skin like Cate, you don't need much makeup. To get her award-winning look, the actress prepped her skin with SK-II Facial Treatment Essence and SK-II Facial Treatment Masks, both of which contain the highest concentration of SK-II's key ingredient, Pitera®.
Facial Treatment Essence, which helps promote radiant skin, is a simple step easy to incorporate into any skincare ritual. Used both day and night, it restores skin’s natural surface cycle. "SK-II is fundamentally different from other lines based on one indispensable product – the Facial Treatment Essence," Cate says. "It is like nothing I have ever used before, a clear liquid that you simply press into your skin. It clarifies and moisturizes. It basically does it all. As a result, my skin looks more balanced and healthy."
Facial Treatment Mask is a deeply intensive, moisture-boosting mask that hydrates the skin with Pitera® to promote more radiant and smoother skin. Cate says, "I use a Facial Treatment Mask to immediately brighten my complexion with a surge of Pitera® - it's so refreshing and leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated."
This dynamic duo intensely moisturizes the skin, resulting in a stunning luminous glow even before makeup is applied.

Skin care in the summertime
Below are some best daily skin care products and secrets to help renovate your skin:
1. Mineral Facial Sunscreens
With mineral sunscreens you not only get sun coverage, you get to cover-up the shiny face you might have.
2. Bronzer
Orange is not the color you should go for. Feel better with a little summer glow, especially if your skin doesn't get much color in the summer months. If you can't have skin care in
summer then fake the glow!
3. New Polish
In nail polish go for the reds, pinks and corals. No one looks good in sandals if they don't take time to take care of their feet and skin care in summer.
4. Body Scrub
Think about all of the dead skin cells that build up on your body over the seasons. Use scrub for daily skin care.
5. Lip Balm with SPF
Choose a lip balm with SPF protection; your lips will skip the aching peeling that can come from sunburn. And what used to be almost not possible to find is now all over the place!
6. Sun Screen You Love
If you don't love your sunscreen, you're not going to want to use it for skin care in summer.
Skin care may be your lifestyle is making you sick
Skincare and skincare treatments are becoming more and more mainstream. Also on the cutting-edge of skincare is skin immunity. As we age, the effectiveness of our immune system decreases. This ultimately leads to both cellular and connective tissue breakdown
that translates into fine lines, wrinkles...and loss of elasticity that occurs in “aging skin".
- Ready Feet for summer
- Acne Skin
- Wrinkles
- Sun Tanning:
- Hands
The regular use of protective hand cream is essential.
- Bodies
- Drinking plenty of water everyday about eight glasses will help cleanse body system as well as hydrating the skin.
- In removing tan color from the face, use an egg white with honey as a facemask.
- Instead of using cleanser for toning the face, use a natural cleanser such as cucumber, which can be mixed with milk or cucumber juice.
- Rubbing cut lemon wedges on the face can help refresh the skin pores. After rubbing, leave the face for about twenty minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. However, this skin care tip is not applicable for those who have dry skin.
- A mixture of milk and honey can be best as cleanser for the face to maintain its glow
- To bring more oxygen to your skin as well as reducing stress, exercising regularly is must. Also, exercise can help skin get nourished and firmer.
- Have a healthy diet and eat right kinds of foods that are rich in essential vitamins
- After washing the face, apply a moisturizer to help protect the skin from any harm or exposure to sunlight.
- Do not sleep with your make up on.
skin care summer
We do lot of exercises to make us healthy and fit, same care is necessary to make our skin healthy and beautiful. No matter how expensive your clothes, jewellery and make up are but if your skin is freckled and spotted nothing could work in improving your personal grooming. In summer some extra care is necessary to make your skin healthy because hot sunshine and moister in rainy season become a reason of pimples and blackheads that leads to some more skin diseases.
One of the most important things in summer is to wash three to four times your face with simple water that will minimizes the dirt on your skin and make it shiny and healthy.
By taking some preventive measures we can save our skin from hot sunshine and dust that is a common reason for pimples and blackheads. Always use umbrella and apply sun block while going out in sunshine. Women who have to go out regularly can take some rose water with them and spray that on your face in heat.
Don’t forget to clean your face with a cleanser or rose water when you come back home because when we go out our skin have to face dust and hot weather in summer that eventually causes many skin diseases.
Simple water is the simplest cure for hale and hearty skin in summer. Drink more simple water especially in the morning because it removes poisonous acids from your skin and make it healthy-looking.
You can also use fresh juices and drinks in summer to balance your body water level. Liquids are necessary for your skin in summer because sweating become a reason of water loss from your body. These simple tips will not take much time from your busy schedule. You can cure your skin from many diseases by spending only some minutes from your daily routine work.
Fresh and healthy skin is every woman’s wish that can be easily attain by taking some care of your own self.
tips for skin .. tips For a Beautiful skin
- This tip suggests that you should cleanse your skin twice daily. For a beautiful skin it is not necessary to wash your face every hour, as this can strip off too much oil from your skin and trigger over-production to compensate.
- The tip further states that maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet. Eat whatever organic is available. If you have a dark spot or acne apparent on your face, refrain from touching the area.
- Keep away hair spray and gels on your hair but off your face.
- For a glowy skin, use a moisturizer if you need one. Do not use towel to dry out your skin to treat acne.
- The tip also suggests an over-the-counter homeopathic remedy.
winter skin care

Noxzema Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths
Back in junior high, I begged Mama Spoiled Pretty to buy me a tub of their Original Deep Cleansing Cream, hoping it would give me flawless skin (and my pick of hot boyfriends) like Rebecca Gayheart. After weeks of telling me no, my mom finally relented during a trip to Drug Emporium (does anyone else remember this store?). I remember how impatient I was on the ride home – I couldn’t wait to try it out and see how it compared to the boring ole bar of Cetaphil that my dermatologist had recommended.
Fast forward 17 or so years (I’m showin’ my age now) and I’m back on the Noxzema bandwagon. The Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths are, basically, Noxzema’s Original Deep Cleansing Cream in wipe form. The pre-moistened wipes remove dirt, oil, and makeup so effectively, you really only need one for your entire face.
The Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths have the same smell and tingle as the Original Deep Cleansing Cream, so I was initially hesitant about using them around my eyes. But as it turns out, even when I used the wipes to remove stubborn mascara, I experienced no waterworks whatsoever. Personally, I could do without the menthol-y fragrance (I get that it’s kind of Noxzema’s signature thang), but it's not a deal-breaker for me.
What I like most about Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths is how my skin feels after I’m done using one. My face doesn’t feel tight and stripped – and it doesn’t feel like there’s still sticky residue sitting on my skin…there’s just a nice, clean feeling.
Noxzema Clean Moisture Makeup Removal Cloths ($4.50) are available at mass market retailers nationwide.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Turn Back Time
Hello Mario,
I find as I get older, my skin needs a lot more coverage and does not have as much luster. Is there a specific product that could help because if I use too much concealer, I look too made up and if I use too much highlighter, it is not smooth looking - and too much glitter on older skin just doesn't look good. Can you recommend some products to use to cover and give the appearance of smooth maturing skin? I am going to turn 42 next month and I am a single mother of a 19-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son and I feel I have lost my shine....please help!
Regards,
Sue
Hi Sue,
I get asked this question a lot from women! As our skin changes with age naturally, the makeup you wear should change as well and same goes for your skin care regimen. Start with your skin products first because it can make a huge difference. Use anti-aging, lifting and collagen-boosting products and always use a rich eye cream like the Eye Balm Intense by La Mer.
For foundation, I recommend you go with a liquid like DiorSkin Sculpt Line-Smoothing Lifting Makeup SPF 20. It covers nicely, contains light-reflecting crystals and gives a glow to the skin. Just blend it well and make sure that the color is a perfect match. If your skin is dry, you can skip powder all together or apply a little loose powder to set the t-zone. For concealer, it's important again to use a liquid and one with anti-wrinkle or lifting properties. A great one is Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector by Maybelline.
To finish off your face, I think every woman should use a makeup setting spray or even Evian spray, especially if you use powder. There are so many out there that are amazing! One of my favorites is 10 Years Younger Makeup Setting Spray by Motives. Apply it right after you finish your makeup and throughout the day to refresh your makeup and keep you glowing.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Skin Care Superstars!
Mario,
This is so exciting being able to ask you a question. I am a regular visitor to your blog and have learned so much about makeup from you. But my question isn't about makeup. It's about skincare. I'd love to know what your favorite skincare products (cleanser, moisturizer, scrub, makeup remover and lip balm) are and why.
Thanks and keep up the awesome work,
Jessica
Hi Jessica,
I have tons of favorites when it comes to skincare products. For cleansing, I love La Mer The Cleansing Foam; it feels amazing, smells good and spreads nicely. A less expensive and comparable cleanser (and one of my all time faves) is Olay Deep Cleansing Face Wash with Witch Hazel. A great, basic and cheap scrub is St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I try not to exfoliate every day though - it can be too harsh on your skin. Once or twice a week I use DDF's Glycolic 5% Exfoliating Wash. To remove your makeup, I recommend Josie Maran's Bear Naked Wipes. I love everything about them and I'm sure you will too. Wipe away makeup and then follow with your normal skincare routine.
When it comes to moisturizing, I tend to use products that are not too thick or oily. I love La Mer The Moisturizing Lotion. It comes in a pump and is more lightweight than the popular creme. Cetaphil is still a favorite of mine also and works well on a lot of skin types. Sara Happ's The Lip Slip is a very nice lip balm and you should try out her lip exfoliators that come in lots of great flavors. I also love MAC's Tinted Lip Conditioner w/ SPF 15. I saved the best for last - The Eye Balm by La Mer. It's a new eye cream and it's the creme de la creme! I use it like three times a day and I LOVE IT!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Hold The Oil
Hi Mario,My problem is that when the weather gets warmer, my face gets very oily. It seems that no matter what I do, my face always looks shiny/greasy - which embarasses me. Can you recommend any products or makeup tips that might help me keep my shine under control?
Thanks!!!!!
Scarlett
Hi Scarlett,
You can control your naturally dewy skin's shine using a few products and/techniques. Start out with an oil-free, light moisturizer (Daneen recommends Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel) all over, prior to makeup application. Let that set in a couple of minutes, then apply Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light by Smashbox. If your skin doesn't need much coverage, I'd skip the foundation altogether and instead use a concealer on spots. Try Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage concealers. Use a loose powder to set the face, making sure that it's free of shimmer and sparkle, of course. Try Priori loose powder. For touch ups throughout the day, use Tatcha Blotting Papers to absorb shine. I once learned a tip from a brilliant beauty blogger who's spoiled pretty - she uses a Starbucks napkin to absorb oils on the skin. It truly works! All the more reason to go to Starbucks! Oh and one more thing- don't feel embarrassed for having oily skin – it's the most effective anti- aging product and it's all yours!
Thanks for visiting Makeup Mondays with Mario!

Clinique Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser
Lately, my skin has been uncharacteristically well-behaved. And so soft and smooth that I can't stop petting my face. I didn't know what to make of my enhanced complexion until I realized that I had recently switched up one element of my skincare routine. I wish you could see/feel my face. It’s a true testament to the brilliance of this cleanser (I've awarded it 'holy grail' status). After washing my face with it, I moisturize with 2-3 pumps of Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. And ever since I started this routine, my skin is like a dream.
Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser ($18.50) and Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion ($24) are available at Sephora, your local Clinique counter, and clinique.com.

Kate Moss's Hangover Cocktail For Puffy, Tired Skin
You know what they say about Kate Moss, right? Ain't no party like a Kate Moss party cuz a Kate Moss party don't stop. Okay, maybe they don't say that. In fact, I know they don't say that because I just made it up.Nevertheless, it's no secret that Kate likes to party. But what has remained a secret - until now - is how Kate manages to look so bright eyed when her late night antics would leave most gals bloodshot.
Kate recently told the Daily Express, "Fill the sink, get some ice, put some cucumber in and stick your head in it. Apparently it's an old-school thing that Joan Crawford used to do. The cucumber takes out all the puffiness and redness. It feels amazing, it rocks. If you're tired it really wakes you up."
Hopefully, side effects do not include the temptation to beat your child with wire hangers.

Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream
A few weeks ago, my skin just up and decided to stage a mutiny. My upper body broke out in a rash. From my hairline all the way down to my torso, I was covered in itchy, sandpaper-like bumps (I now suspect eczema was the culprit). My lips didn't even escape unscathed; they were bumpy and inflated to almost twice their normal size. And on the worst day, my left eye was so swollen and droopy, I looked like a female Forest Whitaker. As the days wore on, the bumps started to dry out and my skin became dessicated and extremely flaky. It was as if I was a snake, shedding an exoskeleton. The dryness of my face was unbearable. With every facial expression or movement of my mouth, it seemed like my skin would literally tear; it was so painful. Up until this point, I had only been using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser - as it was all that my traumatized skin could handle. But it begged for more, so I dug through my skin care arsenal looking for a moisturizer substantial enough to quench my skin's thirst, but gentle enough not to send it into another tizzy. I hit the jackpot when I came across a sample of Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream that the brand sent me a few months ago to review.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this cream. My skin is the true testament. After just a few days of using Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream, I started to recognize the reflection in the mirror again. And now that the rash (and its remnants) are almost gone, I continue to apply the cream after cleansing in the AM and PM.
According to Clinique, I've got their "exclusive, patent-pending Enviro-Soothe™ Complex" to thank for soothing and saving my face. Clinique also promises that when "used over time, it strengthens skin's lipid barrier to support natural healing."
Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream also works wonders on dry, cracked hands. I can't think of a better winter skin care pick than this one; it earns Holy Grail status. If you suffer from reactive, sensitive or dry skin, you'd be a smart gal to add it to your shopping list.
Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream is available at clinique.com, Sephora, Bloomingdale's, and Nordstrom.

Clean & Clear Giveaway!
You’ve heard of the 100 years war? Well, let me tell you about the 20 years war. What’s that, you ask? It’s just this pesky little battle I’ve be waging with acne. Pimples, blackheads and whiteheads are no strangers to my skin – and I have tried hundreds of products to keep the situation under control. When it comes to skin care, I tend to shop in department and specialty stores because my complexion requires the crème de la crème of cleansers, creams, masques and moisturizers. So imagine my surprise to discover a drugstore brand that tamed my temperamental skin; plus the cost of the entire regimen is about the same that I would typically pay for one high-end skin care product.
Meet the Recessionista's Fabuless Pick of the Week...
Clean & Clear Advantage 3-in-1 Foaming Acne Wash goes beyond cleansing to treat acne as you wash, while working to prevent future breakouts. The innovative formula combines a breakthrough oil dissolving technology and acne-fighting ingredients to thoroughly cleanse skin and control breakouts. I love how easily it removes my makeup and the daily grime without stripping my skin.
Clean & Clear Advantage Mark Treatment is a lightweight gel that reduces size of pimples while diminishing the appearance of post-acne marks. The breakthrough formula allows acne medication to start working quickly, reducing blemishes, as well as addressing the after effects of blemishes on skin. If you have acne marks or other types of hyperpigmentation, I highly recommend this treatment.
Clean & Clear Advantage 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser is a daily scrub that treats acne and helps prevent breakouts. Micro-beads in a creamy cleanser formula exfoliate and slough away pore-clogging dirt, oil and impurities while Benzoyl Peroxide treats acne, revealing a clearer complexion.
Clean & Clear Blackhead Eraser Cleansing Mask reduces blackheads and helps prevent new ones from forming. Specially formulated to treat blackhead prone skin, the mask is infused with acne fighting medication and ingredients that draw out dirt, oil and impurities that can clog pores and lead to blackheads.
Clean & Clear Morning Burst In-Shower Facial is a citrus-scented, invigorating deep cleansing treatment that works with the steam from your shower. Clay helps draws out dirt, oil, and impurities from skin, moisturizers keep skin from over-drying. I absolutely adore this product! Used 1-3 times each week (in place of your normal cleanser), it wakes me up and re-energizes my skin – leaving it looking and feeling refreshed. The first time I tried it, Mr. Spoiled Pretty kept complimenting on my skin. “It looks healthy and shiny,” he said. Usually, ‘shiny’ isn’t an adjective I would want attributed to my skin; but I understood that in man-speak, he meant that my complexion looked vibrant.
This week, I’m not content to just tell you about my fabulous new drugstore finds. I’m partnering with Clean & Clear and we’re giving away a set. And because we’re confident that these products will help keep your complexion in check, we’re throwing in the Polaroid 7MP Pink Digital Camera – so you can document the improvement in your skin!
To enter the giveaway, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name and mailing address. The subject line should read "Clean & Clear Giveaway." The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Wednesday, December 9th. One winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Thursday, December 10th, I'll announce the winner’s name. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. and Canadian residents. Good luck!
Get Cullen-Perfect Skin with Dermalogica
Dermalogica is a favorite brand of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. On set, Makeup Designer Norma Hill-Patton routinely used the products to create the best canvas for dressing up the vampires and werewolves."All of the Actors required a lot of makeup and it was on their faces for long periods of time, so we needed to take particular care of their skins," said Hill-Patton, New Moon Makeup Designer. "Vampires don't perspire, don't grow facial hair, don't get lines and certainly don’t get blemishes!
We loved Dermalogica's active moist which we used on most of the cast as it is quite universal and suits most types of skin. The precleanse was invaluable for cleansing off the body make up, especially because we had to apply a make up fixative and it was difficult to remove. But we didn't want anything that was harsh or might induce a reaction. The intensive eye repair was great for keeping the fine lines around the eyes at bay. A tiny amount patted under the eye for final checks (on top of the makeup) did wonders to diminish the lines for close ups.
And finally, the shave system kit was used on all of the guys with great success! Again, it was really important to be sympathetic to their skins as they had to have a really close shave. I'm a great fan of the close shave oil and it can be used for wet shaves or electric shaves! We even had to shave some of them in the middle of the day to maintain the smooth look to their skin!
I also loved the renewal lip complex to keep their lips smooth during the cold, windy days during exterior filming. Perfect for those up-close kissing scenes! In fact, we used a lot of the skin care on the entire Cast!"
"My daily makeup regime includes Dermalogica sunscreen, said Ashley Green (aka Alice Cullen). They also have a really great special clearing booster for spot treatment on blemishes. It's a little more involved on set with hot towel treatments and Dermalogica precleanse to get all that white makeup off. We use a lot Dermalogica products…I love the microfoliant!"
Tinsel Corey (aka Emily, the pack mother) says, "My daily skin regimen is a cleanser, toner, moisturizer. Once a week an exfoliant, and a hydrating mask. I alternate between products though, one of my favorites is Dermalogica. One of main things that also helps with my skin is taking my multi-vitamins, zinc and flaxseed oil caps."
