Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture Collection

Go, go, robot model!

Unlike, say... Karl Lagerfeld, Riccardo Tisci likes to keep his presentations minimal. The world of fashion has a somewhat flexible definition of "minimal," but for this show it meant 10 stunning gowns at the Hotel d'Evreux in the Place Vendôme with an all Asian cast of models. The collection takes inspiration from the Japanese performance art of butoh, dance legend Kazuo Ohno, and, amazingly and delightfully enough, robot toys. Top it off with eye-popping hats designed by Philip Treacy, the man to go to when it comes to eye-popping hats, and darlings? You've got a feast for the eyes. The delicate sequined embroideries, the feathers, the soft palette with pops of bright yellow and pink, the crane motif - it's all just perfect and just what one thinks of when one thinks of the best parts of haute couture.
