Thom Browne Menswear Fall 2011 Collection
Last season he sent them to space, this time Thom Browne invited men everywhere to dinner in an Eighteenth Century setting, drawing inspiration from Thomas Jefferson's fabled trip to Paris. It seems like the menswear collections are the ones really pushing the fashion envelope these days, almost to the point of rebellion. It's a development we wholeheartedly support, even if we have no intention of donning skirts or plaid knickers ourselves. We admire Thom Browne for poking fun at the conventions and taking menswear in a different direction, even if it's only by suggesting a higher hem or a new shape for a jacket, or by playing with scale, color, and shape in a way we haven't seen before. One has to wonder how much of what we're seeing here is salable and what form it will take when it trickles down to stores.
